Tagus is our home |
«Nature and Culture Hand in Hand by the Tagus » «A Piece of Paradise, One Hour Away From Lisbon» The most beautiful spots of Portugal can often be outside our door and that is very true for the extent of the Tagus between Vila Franca de Xira and Santarém. For you, coming from Lisbon, one hour is enough to find the habitat of pink flamingos, herons and bitterns, several birds of prey like the rare fish-hawk as you rest in any of the islands built by the river. These islands called «mouchões» are the perfect spots to call when practising canoeing starting from Palhota, a small fishermen’s village by the Tagus. This village is the best-preserved example of traditional fishermen's palafitte village built by those who came long ago from Vieira de Leiria, and as such, of unique cultural and historic significance. It is here at Palhota, that Association Projecto Palhota Viva has been promoting a program of ecotourism, using marked tracks, bicycles and canoes and performing bird watching aiming to help you ending the stress of your everyday life. You don’t need to be an athlete to join us and the nature. As adventure is a state of mind you provide the «willing» and we provide the rest. So, come along with us. |
